North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has disclosed that more than one person died in last Friday's crossfire between security agencies in the country and some persons believed to be members of the Western Togoland Restoration Front.
The MP said reports received from his constituents indicate that at least 3 persons died from the incident.
"The second body has been found yesterday. This will confirm what my constituents have been telling me," he said on the Super Morning Show.
This comes after the MP on the same show cautioned security agencies against using extreme force while dealing with persons perceived to be members of the Western Togoland secessionist group.
The group, last Friday simultaneously attacked the Aveyime and Mepe Police Stations in the North Tongu Constituency, leaving one officer injured.
Subsequently, over 30 persons were arrested in connection with the incident after a ceasefire between the alleged Western Togoland separatist group and the police and military.
Police reports confirmed one person dead, however, the MP says there could be more dead persons. He therefore has cautioned security agencies to be more cautious in dealing with the matter.
"It is important that we take time to investigate to know the exact extent of casualties, to know exactly who these invaders are, who is sponsoring them because they are clearly now radicalised and sophisticated," he said.
He further raised concerns over the nature of response the National Security has given since the emergence of the group.
Mr Ablakwa said the response by National Security has been inadequate.
While asking them to up their game, he also urged them to engage members of the community to assist in investigations.
