The CEO of the Chamber of Mines has said the sector is not certain about how the year will end for the sector due to the effect of Covid-19.
Suleiman Koney said he is hopeful for the best in order to support the economy.
He told JoyBusiness the topmost challenge for the industry has been looking out for ways to sustain production.
This follows the continuous adverse effects of the coronavirus outbreak on the country's industry.
"Everybody's interest is to sustain production because the price is good and if the price is good, all things being equal you have your royalty. If you're able to sustain production everything goes up for you and you're able to support the economy going forward.
"But as I said, the watchword is how Covid-19 adversely affect production moving forward. That is quite uncertain and as a responsible industry, we need and continue to work together to collaborate and learn from best practices both in the country and elsewhere," he said.
According to Mr Koney, the current situation has also made it difficult for new developments to begin due to the expertise available.
"The border closure has also brought some effect because most of these workers are not able to come into the country, making new exploration works delay," he said.
He said the Chamber of Mines is, however, working assiduously to get government's support in the industry to help curb the negative impact of the virus.
