Plans are underway to carry out a comprehensive job evaluation exercise for mining sector workers in the coming weeks.
The Ghana Mineworkers' Union is spearheading this in a bid to address its longstanding concern over salary inequities between local and expatriate mine workers of the same job-levels.
Based on the results of the exercise, the union would then negotiate for equity with management of the various mining companies.
General Secretary of the union, Prince William Ankrah told Joy Business that the move should provide a more sustainable solution to the issue.
Mr. Ankrah added that even though government as a minority shareholder in the mining companies is limited in its intervention role in the issue, it still has a critical role to play.
