Milovan Rajevac’s second stint with the Black Stars began on a good note as the team clinched a 3-1 victory courtesy goals from Mohammed Kudus, Thomas Partey and Andre Ayew at the Cape Coast stadium on Saturday.
Ghana needed just five minutes to stamp their authority in the game. A neat one two between Kudus and Jordan Ayew set the former up for a strike which was expertly taken.
Later in the half, Kudus got another opportunity to double the advantage but hit the ball straight at the goalkeeper from about eight yards out.
At the start of the second period, Zimbabwe drove forward with some purpose and were awarded a penalty following Alexander Djiku’s rash challenge on the opposition striker.
Knowledge Musona stepped up and completely fooled debutant Jojo Wollacott to level the score line in the 49th minute.
Six minutes after the hour mark, Thomas Partey regained the lead for the team with a low strike into the near post. Andre Ayew gave the side a two goal cushion in the 87th minute via a header.
Ghana are now second on the Group G log with six points after three matches, just one point behind leaders South Africa. The Black Stars need to top the group to stand a chance of reaching the world stage for the first time since 2014.
