GFA communications director, Henry Asante Twum has indicated that head coach, Milovan Rajevac and his team are poised to claim all three points in the team’s game against Ethiopia.
The Black Stars play their penultimate group stage fixture of the FIFA 2022 World Cup qualifier on Thursday at the Orlando Stadium versus Ethiopia.
To stand a chance at qualification ahead of the South Africa showdown in Cape Coast, the Black Stars will need to beat Ethiopia.
The team which consists of 24 players and technical members, made the trip for South Africa without key players like Thomas Partey who succumbed to a groin injury.
Despite the absence of the deputy captain, the GFA communications director indicates the team is focused and confident of victory against the Walias.
“It is exactly 25 minutes past 11, the Black Stars have safely arrived in South Africa. We departed Accra around 3:25 in the evening yesterday and we have touched down peacefully. 24 players made the trip to South Africa where our mission is simple; we are here to play against Ethiopia. Ghana is in need of a win against the Ethiopians to still stay in contention for the single slot in group G.
“The team will have its official training at the Orlando stadium at 3pm after which we’ll have some rest and prepare for the game on Thursday. Milovan Rajevac and his charges are upbeat about Ghana’s chances of winning this game, to still be in pole position to qualifying to the next round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. Here in South Africa all is well, players are in good condition psychologically,” Twum said in a GFA TV production.
The absence of Partey, who was crucial to Ghana’s back-to-back victories over Zimbabwe, has left some sections of fans worried ahead of the clash.
However former Ghana midfielder, Isaac Cofie believes the team has enough quality to overcome the Arsenal midfielder’s absence.
“Wakaso is very experienced and he has shown anytime he’s played for the national team. And Addo is also young but looking at his exposure in the cl, it means that games of this caliber wouldn’t put any fear in his so he can also stand up to the task. Baba Iddrisu has also been consistent for the Black Stars so I think any player the coach decides to go with will do the work for Ghana,” Cofie said to Joy Sports.
AS Roma protégé, Afena-Gyan, Jonathan Mensah, Gideon Mensah and Benjamin Tetteh are other players who will miss out on the Ethiopian clash.
Ghana on nine points, are second in Group G, one behind South Africa who will travel to face Zimbabwe.
