Member of Parliament for Okaikoi South, Nana Akomea, says President Mills is not being honest with Ghanaians as far as his relationship with ex-President Rawlings is concerned.
According to him, it is obvious that the president is uncomfortable with his former boss’ “terrible attacks but he is trying to put on a brave face.
“Here you have your former boss who should have access to you all the time lambasting you in public constantly,” he noted.
The President John Evans Atta Mills on Thursday, January 7, 2010, which also marked the first anniversary of his presidency, met the press at the Castle-Osu to answer some questions.
President Mills spoke on his relationship with former President Rawlings, claiming he is comfortable with his former boss despite the latter’s public criticism of the Mills government.
He noted that having ruled the country for 19 years, ex-president Rawlings has a wealth of experience that no other ex-president of this country has, therefore, his (Rawlings) criticisms are welcome.
However, Nana Akomea, who was speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana program on Friday, explained that given the kind of things the ex-president has been saying “that the Mills government is worse than slow; that he has surrounded himself with some characters who are taking advantage of his slowness and has appointed people who are strangers to the party…,” Mills cannot say he is not worried.
“This is the kind of criticism the man is giving to you and you are comfortable with the criticism? How can you be?" He asked. He expressed shock that the president attributed Mr. Rawlings’ outburst to internal democracy, questioning that “how can you attribute that to internal democracy?"
Nana Akomea stated that the president’s posture on the issue is a clear indication that “he was bending over backwards to accommodate his former boss,” and urged the President to be honest about the situation so that he can win the sympathy of Ghanaians as he tries to deal with it.
