Mr Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko, one of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flag¬bearer aspirants has indicated that he was not threatened or moved by the early election of Prof. John Evans Atta Mills as presidential candidate of the opposition, National Democratic Congress (NDC) stressing that the Professor can't match him in any way if he is elected as flagbearer of the NPP for the 2008 elections.
According to him, Prof Mills and NDC had not appropriately utilized opportunities involved in the early congress they held, to adequately market himself ahead of the general elections.
This statement by Dr Agyarko was in response to some assertions by some members of the NDC in Tamale that the early election of the Professor is going to silence whoever emerges as flagbearer of the NPP.
The NDC believes that Mills has got all the opportunities and ample time to market himself as compared to any candidate of the NPP who will be elected at the party’s congress in December.
The NPP aspirant a.k.a King David, was in the North to complete his tour of the twenty six constituencies in the region.
Mr Agyarko who described the assertion by the NDC as a childish political calculation, observed that the competency of Prof Mills and vibrancy of the NDC were highly questionable and as such Mills and the NDC would not pose as a threat to him if he is elected flagbearer of the NPP.
The opposition party he indicated was not well structured and had not well structured and had not any meaningful campaign message to persuade the people of Ghana.
He was confident that the NDC would be taught a shock¬ing lesson by whoever would be crowned NPP flag bearer, if he continued to rely solely on his early election without utilizing that chance the opportunity well enough.
Mr Agyarko therefore supported his claims with the old adage that “The first to appear in court does not automatically become the victor”, implying that Prof. Mills could not become automatically the President of Ghana just because he as flag bearer earlier.
However, the acclaimed selfless, patriotic and compassionate Presidential hopeful strongly debunked the assertion that he was likely to throw his weight behind another aspirant.
“Why should I have to spend so much resources, time and energy if I have the intentions of merging camp with another aspirant?”
The 51-year-old Economist though was happy at the level of development given Ghanaians by the Kufuor administration, he was hopeful that his administration would bring accelerated development with special attention on the north.
According to him, his government would fully exploit the great potentials and resources in the north both human and material to realize the required development for the people.
Mr. Agyarko emphasized that the three northern regions alone could be mechanized agriculturally to feed the whole of West Africa con¬sidering the vast landmass.
Calling for the total support from delegates to become flagbearer of the NPP, the aspirant appealed to his colleague aspirants to be mindful of how they go about their campaigning in order not to disintegrate the party after the congress.
