The Mayor of Milan, Madam Letizia Moratti on Monday applauded Ghana's role in peacekeeping missions and leadership in the promotion of good governance and security.
"I am impressed by your leadership," she said, during a courtesy call on President John Agyekum Kufuor at the Castle, Osu.
Madam Moratti who is also the President of the Teatro Alla Scala Orchestra, a Milan troupe that is in Accra to give a cultural performance at the National Theatre as part of the Golden Jubilee Celebrations, said she was convinced that through co-operation with Ghana they could serve the goals of peace and security in Africa.
She expressed her appreciation for the prudent management of the country's economy and the level of infrastructure development.
This is the first ever visit to Africa by the Milan Orchestra and former United Nation's Secretary General, Busumuru Kofi Annan's special relationship with Madam Moratti played a significant part in
this.
President Kufuor said he was happy with the decision by the Orchestra to perform in Ghana, adding that there could not have been a bigger present to the country as it celebrated 50 years of nationhood.
He noted that it would give Ghanaians the opportunity to enjoy the global culture.
President Kufuor had earlier had discussions with a special envoy of Libyan Leader, Colonel Muammar Qathafi, at the Castle.
The discussions with Dr Sied Arybee Hafiana were held behind closed doors but are believed to have centred on regional and international matters.
