The first round of the CAL Bank Beach Soccer League came to an end with some interesting and surprising results.
Keta Sunset Sports threw away a 4-1 lead to draw 4-4 with Ada Assurance. The latter drew first blood through Simon Sossi. The lead did not last long though as Newlove Doe levelled the result a minute later. Micheal Sema put Sunset ahead before Doe scored his second to widen the gap.
Micheal Sema scored Sunset’s fourth with about five minutes to go and while that goal should have settled the game, it rather invigorated Ada Assurance. Assurance started a flurry of attacks on Sunset’s goal. One of those earned Assurance a penalty.
Joseph Larweh stepped up and slotted the ball in the net. The defence of Sunset went flat and they conceded another goal by Billy Kisseh. Just on the stroke of full time, Joseph Larweh bundled the ball into the net for the equalizer.
Havedzi Mighty Warriors took full advantage of Sunset’s slip by storming to the top of the league with a 7-0 thrashing of East Legon Sharks. Captain Innocent Kumensah put the Keta side in front. Sampson Kudoda followed suit with a hat-trick. Herbert Wemegah scored the fifth goal before Kudoda banged in two more to end the game emphatically.
Elsewhere, Tegbi Youth defeated Osu Dolphins 2-0. In a hard-fought game, Christian Mensah managed to break the deadlock for Youth. Michael Anthonio later rounded up Tegbi Youth’s decent victory over the Osu representatives. The win puts Tegbi Youth above Dolphins in ninth place. Both teams are level on points with six but Youth edge Dolphins on goal difference.
In another comeback display, Wuo Gbεε came from two goals down to beat Dansoman BSC 4-2. Solomon Sackey and Ezekiel Botchway both scored for Dansoman. Prolific striker Richard Osa replied for Wuo Gbεε with a double of his own. James Tagoe and Samuel Adjei added their name to the scoring sheet to hand the La side a well deserved victory.
Local outfit Layoca, and Senya Bereku Sharks battled hard to a 4-4 draw. This fixture produced a lot of entertainment as both teams exhibited a lot of attacking intent. Isaac Ofori gave Layoca the upper hand in the seventh minute. However, Senya Sharks’ Isaac Arkoful cancelled his team’s deficit before the end of the first period.
Isaac Ofori scored again for Layoca before Samuel Yartey equalised later on. Joshua Adjei made it 3-2 to Layoca only for Joseph Benin to make the scores even again. Daniel Adjei scored for Layoca with a beautiful volley but just when they thought they had all three points in the bag, Isaac Arkoful had the last word with virtually the last kick of the match.
