The war of words has begun ahead of the hoped final installment of the lightweight trilogy between Michael Ansah and Sherrif Quaye on March 6.
The bout being put together by Box Office Promotions is gathering momentum with both camps pressing the pedals harder than usual to get in shape for the clash which will seal off the argument about who is the better lightweight of the two and by extension the best in Ghana.
Sherrif Quaye
The 'One Time' won the maiden installment of this bout to become Ghana’s lightweight champion. However, in the second meeting, he was rendered a victim by Ansah who seemed to have found his punch rhythm and extra energy.
“I don’t want to talk much. I was really looking forward to correcting the wrong when the third fight was rescheduled as a result of covid-19.
If Michael Ansah says he is the better boxer we shall see. The ‘four square’ ring will tell,” he told Joy Sports during a gym visit.
This is something his trainer, Carl Lokko agrees with. “We won the first fight and lost the second fight. Being fair to Michael Ansah, he won the second encounter fairly and we have to give him that credit. But we are coming in with something different this time around.”
Sherrif Quaye entered the professional ranks in 2015 and has recorded 19 wins, two losses and a draw, with 12 of the vctories coming through knockouts.
Michael Ansah
An eight-minute drive separates the Sheriff Quaye’s Bronx Gym and the Charles Quartey Boxing Gym where Michael Ansah trains under retired Ghana Navy Officer Charles Quartey.
The not-so-tall lightweight is focused on delivering a repeat of the last encounter in March 2019, where he came out a TKO victor. “I want to urge my fans to make an early date with the fight because I want to show them something. If they late they will have themselves to blame”
“Sheriff likes to procrastinate. He always keeps saying he will do something yet we don’t see him do anything. He will not exceed round three. I will make sure that he doesn’t go past round three.”
Michael Ansah, the One Bullet had 19 wins 10 losses and two draws making up his record. His relatively youthful career has had its highs and lows.
“I will make sure Sherrif Quaye falls in round one and two and I will switch him off in round three. He lacks etiquette too. Which boxers has Sherriff Quaye fought and what fight style does he have?
“I fought many big opponents including George Ashie and Wahab Oluwaseun. I want my fans to make a date and see me do it.
Due to covid-19 restrictions, no fans will be allowed into the Bukom Boxing Arena. Box office Promotions is expected to announce a plan for television and streaming access to the fans next week.
