Residents of Mfantseman Constituency in the Central Region are in a state of mourning following the murder of the New Patriotic Party's MP, Ekow Quansah Hayford.
In tears and disbelief, a crowd made up of both the young and aged flooded the premises of the Saltpond Hospital when Mr Hayford’s body was being conveyed from the mortuary.
This was after the MP was transferred after the attack at about 1:00am Friday morning, by 6 armed highway robbers.
Sources says the incident took place on the Abeadze Dominase – Abeadze Duadzi – Mankessim Road during his return from a campaign trip.
According to an eyewitness report, the armed robbers shot the driver of his car after he refused to stop when they signalled him.
They then dragged the MP out of the car and started questioning him.
When he identified himself, the robbers got infuriated and blamed him for the problems being faced by people in the country.
He was then shot twice, leading to his untimely demise.
Meanwhile, the Mfantseman branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has suspended all political activities including campaigning due to the development.
In a statement issued and signed by Fred Budu Hagan and Communication Officer, Dr Stanley K.K. Acquah, the NDC while consoling the family of the late MP, called on the Akufo-Addo government to arrest the poor security situation in the country.
