John Mensah believes Germany’s desire to avoid a potential first round exit would rather pile the pressure on Joachim Low’s side.
Ghana, leaders in Group D will play Germany, who are a point behind the Black Stars in the final first-round clash on Wednesday at Johannesburg’s Soccer City Stadium in a group thrown wide open as the other two group members – Serbia and Australia – also have a chance to reach the second round.
The Germans are level on points with Serbia while Australia have point going into the final day matches.
Certainly, Ghana needs a result to make certain their place in the last 16 but Mensah says their opponents will also be under more pressure.
"I don't think there is pressure on us," he said. "They will probably have more pressure because they are favourites.”
Mensah is expected to return to action after missing Ghana’s second group game and he says the Black Stars have to remain tight throughout the game against the Germans.
“We all know Germany has a good team, but we believe we have a good team as well. We have to keep things tight, stay compact and I'm sure we can win the match."
