Ghana captain John Mensah will miss the Christmas football activities for Sunderland after picking up an ankle injury in their 1-0 win over Bolton last Saturday.
The defender was substituted half way through the first half of that game following a robust challenge on his ankle.
Now Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has revealed the injury will leave him without Mensah for their trip to Manchester United over the holiday period.
“Mensah has got a bad ankle,” he said. “It’s unlikely we will see him in action over Christmas.”
