The National Insurance Commission will next Thursday resume talks for a review of the cost of motor insurance after the deliberations ended inconclusively on Tuesday.
While the Ghana Insurers Association is proposing a 100 percent increase, down from the 300 percent earlier proposed, the GPRTU and the Ghana National Association of Passengers would accept an increase of only 30 percent.
The Consumer Protection Agency which is also party to the talks is also asking for a 50 percent increase.
According to the NIC the postponement is to enable all the parties reconsider their stance.
The Commission had to step in to mediate the talks, after a proposed 300 percent increase in motor insurance premiums caused an uproar with drivers threatening to also increase their transport fares if the new premiums are allowed to stand.
