McDan Group of Companies' new wing McDan Aviation last Friday launched the country's first private jet charter services at the Domestic Wing of the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) in Accra.
The ultra-modern jet lounge, which could rival its international counterpart, was opened to the public in a colourful ceremony at Terminal 1 of the KIA.
Daniel McKorley, the CEO and Executive Chairman of the McDan Group of Companies, said the launch marks the start of more significant achievements in the country’s aviation industry.
Speaking during the launch, he was elated this plan had come to fruition.
"The goal behind this private jet lounge is to position the country's aviation industry amongst the best in the world. The lounge is not for McDan rather, it is for the business community and top-class executives, and this is one of the places we can be recognised amongst the leading countries when it comes to aviation," he said.
He said the private jet lounge is a potential boost for the country’s tourism industry.
According to Daniel Mckorley, the private jet services will serve the needs of high-end customers in a state of elegance while providing a quick and efficient journey for corporate clients on their business trips.
The businessman currently operates and manages the executive lounge for private jets at Terminal 1.
McDan Aviation, after acquiring a Fixed-Base Operator (FBO) license from the Ghana Airport Company Limited (GACL), will kickstart its commercial private jet services with three aeroplanes and one helicopter.
Also, plans are in place to acquire other aeroplanes, including a Challenger 604 Bombardier, a Gulfstream jet and helicopters.
These are to offer air-ambulance medical services and for domestic tourism.
The facility boasts of VIP lounge, crew lounge, flight planning office, conference facilities and a hangar.
Passengers and crew can complete customs and immigration procedures in the same building, which also features a restaurant that can provide in-flight catering.
McDan Aviation now caters for full ground handling services at KIA Terminal 1.
This includes general aviation operations, aircraft service operations, aircraft airframe and engine repairs (maintenance) and aircraft rentals.
