The leader of the Alternative Force for Action (AFA) and a presidential hopeful, Dr Sam Ankrah, has pledged to prioritise the welfare and well-being of workers if elected president in the upcoming December polls.
He expressed this commitment to acknowledge the tireless efforts, unwavering dedication, and significant contributions of Ghanaian workers to the nation's progress and development.
In a press statement issued on the occasion of May Day on Wednesday, May 1, Dr Ankrah stressed that the welfare of Ghanaian workers should be paramount in all situations.
Dr Ankrah emphasised that without the efforts of Ghanaian workers, there would be no country called Ghana, highlighting the crucial role they play in the nation's growth.
Among his promises, Dr Ankrah pledged to implement a living minimum wage to ensure decent earnings and a dignified life for all workers.
This proposal aims to address the issue of low wages and improve the standard of living for workers across various sectors.
Additionally, Dr Ankrah vowed to promote health and safety in the workplace. He plans to achieve this by banning the carrying of heavy loads on the head, a common practice that poses serious health risks to workers.
Instead, he intends to promote safer work practices to reduce the incidence of work-related injuries and accidents.
"On this momentous occasion of International Workers' Day, I extend my warmest felicitations to all Ghanaian workers across the country. Today, we honour your tireless efforts, unwavering dedication, and significant contributions to our nation's progress and development.
"As we celebrate this day, I want to emphasise the urgent need for fair labour practices, improved working conditions, and a commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of all workers. As the leader of Alternative Force for Action (AFA) and a presidential candidate in the upcoming 2024 elections, I pledge to prioritise the welfare and well-being of workers if elected as the President of Ghana."
