Al Waleed beat Islamic Training Institute to win the 2023 Schools’ edition of the Maxwell Woledzi Hijab Project football tournament.

Al Waleed sealed the victory over the defending champions after winning 2-0 in the penalty shootouts after 0-0 in regular time.

The tournament, which was played at the Islamic Training Institute school park saw hundreds of students present to witness another successful tournament.

Seven schools participated in this year’s edition with Accra New Town’s Rashaad being the new entrants.

Al Waleed booked their place in the final of the tournament following their penalty shootout win in the semifinal before going on to defeat Islamic Training Institute.

The project aims to encourage and motivate Muslim young girls in the sport to play while still keeping to their Islamic religious values of being in the veil or head scarf.

Head coverings were distributed to all participating players and the finalist of the tournament, Al Waleed and Islamic Training Institute received a set of apparel while the winners got a trophy in addition.

The two teams also received $60 and $40 respectively which was donated by the founder of HC Talent and the agent of Woledzi, Kwasi Siaw.

The project was also supported by Frankies, who refreshed the students at the end of the one-day event.

Woledzi expressed his delight at the successful organisation of another edition and promised to make it better in subsequent editions.
