Ghana’s Chan team coach, Maxwell Konadu hailed the character of his side after they battled to beat Togo 2-1 in a test game in Lome on Sunday.
It was the first away game in nine for the Black Stars ‘B’ since beginning preparations in May for their crucial 2018 Chan qualifying tie with Burkina Faso.
And the boys passed a good test of their character from the Togo side coached by Jean Paul Abalo.
Ghana’s lead on the stroke of halftime from Richmond Lamptey was cancelled out by Issifou Bourahana following a powerful second-half display from the hosts. However, substitute Daniel Lamptey netted the match winner just three minutes after the equaliser.
“We were expecting a lot of things from the game today and we had what we wanted,” coach Konadu remarked after the match at the Stadé de Kegué.
“We expected a tough game and that is what Togo gave us. Especially in the second half, they were stronger, gave us a lot of pressure, pinned us to our side and that tested our resilience.”
“They had their goal from that moment and the way we responded was fantastic. The boys showed a lot of character and fought back. And for me, that is the most important thing because that is what I expected,” he added.
Ghana will take on Burkina Faso for one of three available tickets in West Zone B to the fifth edition of the Chan tournament in Kenya. The Ghanaians travel to Ouagadougou for the first of the two-legged tie on the weekend of 11-13 August before hosting the second leg the following weekend.
