Michael Essien came through his first full training session with Chelsea on Tuesday, same day that his Black Stars colleagues were rounding up their preparations for the Nations Cup in South Africa.
Ghana and Chelsea have agreed for the midfield star who will captain the team in Angola to complete his rehabilitation at Stanford Bridge before joining his colleagues in Angola on Saturday.
He will travel to Angola with a Chelsea team doctor according to the Times newspaper and is almost certain to miss the game against Togo even though Milovan Rajevac insist he will be the man to make that call after he has observed him at close range himself.
With so many big name players missing, Essien will be crucial for Ghana not only as the main man in midfield but as captain of the side too.
But if he is unable to make the opening game, then Wigan goalkeeper Richard Kingson will captain the team.
