The Chairperson of the People's National Party (PNP), Janet Asana Nabla, has condemned the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for mass dismissals of public sector employees believed to have been engaged towards the end of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.

In an interview on Joy FM's Top Story on Thursday, February 20, she accused the incumbent party of repeating the same actions that Ghanaians condemned under the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.

The PNP Chairperson criticised the NDC for following in the NPP’s footsteps, noting that the dismissals mirror similar actions during the last power transition.

"What is painful is that the reason why Ghanaians came to NDC is now becoming a mirage because all the things that the NPP did that Ghanaians were angry and voted against them, the NDC are in power, and they are now practising the same gargantuan thing. When you look at the letter that came out, it is like they just copied the same dismissal letters the NPP used during their transition,” she lamented.

Madam Nabla also recalled the period following President John Dramani Mahama's exit from office when the NPP threatened to revoke several appointments made during Mahama’s tenure noting that President Mahama had warned at the time that such dismissals would be harmful, unconstitutional, and a violation of the rights of the affected employees.

“I don’t know when those words stopped being true. Now that the NDC is in power, they’ve done exactly what they once condemned. They came in and the first thing they did was revoke appointments,” she stated.

She further expressed concern over the recruitment process leading up to the dismissals, highlighting that many of the revoked appointments were made in the months leading to the transition, particularly in October and November.

“This cycle of dismissals undermines the trust Ghanaians have in our democracy. It shows that these two political parties are no different, and our country cannot continue to be run on this kind of political favouritism."
