Participants at a meeting to find solutions to the congestion of the Mankessim central business district have urged the Mfantseman District Assembly to relocate some of the lorry stations from the main station to other parts of the town.
The participants made up of executives of drivers unions; traders associations leaders; security officers; Assembly Members and some opinion leaders in Mankessim were of the opinion that if this was done, it would decongest the area.
The meeting was organised by the Mankessim branch of the World Federation of United Nations Association (WFUNA) to find solution to the congestion in the area.
According to WFUNA, the congestion in that area not only affected economic activities but also created problems for traders, travellers and revenue mobilization by the Assembly.
The meeting mandated WFUNA to meet the GPRTU branch and Co-operative Drivers Union and the District Assembly on how best to decongest the area to facilitate business.
Bishop Peter Sackey, an executive member of WFUNA, expressed the hope that participants would study the points raised and bring suggestions that would help to find solution to the problem.
He appealed to the drivers unions in the town to cooperate with the authorities and agencies involved in the decongestion programme.
