Managers of the Tamale Children's Home in the Northern Region have appealed for support to purchase gas cylinders for cooking at the home.
According to the managers, the continued use of fuel wood is not only time-consuming but very expensive because of the high cost of the wood and transportation.
Currently, the home uses fuel wood to cook, a situation the managers have described as a bother.
The Tamale Children's Home faced with numerous challenges including funds to run the home, means of transport, poor accommodation facilities, water, fenced wall among others
The Manageress of the home, Janet Boahema Ansu made the appeal when the Gold Coast Medical Foundation (GCMF) presented some food items and other assorted drinks to the home.
The donation is part of GCMF's annual charity work to support orphanages and other vulnerable people in society.
She said they rely on the use of wood which is draining their already dissipated purse.
"We use firewood and it's costing us a lot, recently one of the trees fell and we call a chainsaw operator to cut it for us and as we speak, we are owning him about GH₵4,000. 00 because we don't have the money to pay but we need the firewood to cook," she said.
Mrs Boahema Ansu said the donation by the Gold Coast Medical Foundation comes at a time they are in dire need of food, especially for Christmas.
"We pray for more support to come so that at least it can keep the home running because the children need to eat and we are so glad that this has come and it will go a long way to give us something for Christmas," she said.
The northern and southern representative of the Gold Coast Medical Foundation, Abdul Rahman said the donation forms part of the foundation's objectives to support the poor and vulnerable.
He said Gold Coast Medical Foundation and its sponsors have taken notice of the challenges and would see how they can support.
"Today we just came here to donate our little mite to the home. We just learned of the Nyohini Children's Home and so we will go back and see our next plan for Mr home," Mr.Rahman said.
He also appealed to the general public and other organizations to come to the aid of the home.
