The Management of State Gold Mining Corporation (SGMC) has renovated a two-bedroom bungalow at a cost of GH¢18,000 for the only medical officer at Prestea Hospital who was ejected from his apartment some weeks ago, at Prestea. The Doctor Kennedy Azantilow was ejected from his bungalow by the State Gold Mining Company who claimed ownership of the company. The situation left the Prestea Hospital operate for weeks without a doctor. The latest gesture by the company seems to have fixed the button now. Mr Kofi Anokye Yesuo, Desk Officer of SGMC announced this at the handing over of keys to Dr Azantilow at Prestea. The hospital serves people in 10 communities including Asankrangwa and Samereboi. Dr Jack Galley, Wassa West District Director of Health Services expressed appreciation to the company for the gesture and appealed to health workers in the area to live up to expectation in the provision of health care to the people. Mr Albert Kwaku Obbin, Member of Parliament for Prestea/Huni-Valley constituency appealed to Ghana Health Service (GHS) to appoint a new medical officer to the hospital. Mr Emmanuel Kwesi Ayensu, Wassa West District Chief Executive, said in 1996 when the company was divested to the management of Golden Star Bogoso/Prestea Limited (GSBPL), the hospital was handed over to Ministry of Health but there was no arrangement for the provision of accommodation for the medical officer. He appealed to the management of SGMC to release some of their bungalows to be renovated for other health workers to be posted to the hospital. Nana Adu Panyin, Chief of Mbease Nsuta appealed to the management of Golden Star Bogoso/Prestea Limited (GSBPL) to live up to expectation with regards to its social responsibility to communities within its catchment area.
