The Ghana Police Service has arrested Nana Poku Piesie also known as Kwabena, who is seen in a viral video admitting to sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl.
In a statement issued by the police on their social media handles, the suspect is in custody assisting them with investigations.
"We wish to assure the public that the suspect will be taken through the due process of the law," the police indicate.
The arrest comes after a number of people including Ghanaian rapper, Sarkodie and Lydia Forson called on the police to bring the Nana Poku to book.
The video of Nana Poku who is seen admitting to sexually assaulting the 14-year-old girl, has raised hackles among some Ghanaians.
Speaking during a radio programme on Sompa FM, the man is heard talking about how he had sexual affair with the young girl when she was in primary school till she was done with her high school education.
Admitting that he is currently facing the effects of his actions, the man noted that a teacher is employing similar means to have his way with his [the perpetrator's] daughter.
“A few years ago, I had sex with a 14-year-old girl. Her father is a wealthy man in Dormaa Ahenkro,” he noted.
“After my daughter also got to that age, I observed that one teacher had also started making sexual advances at her. I told my wife about it and she reminded me about my sinful act with the other girl,” he said giving a background to how karma serves people who do evil.
This man, who inferably had taught before, indicated that he got to sleep with the 14-year-old school girl through extra classes, adding that he broke her virginity.
Although he said during the radio programme that his past actions hurt him, rapper Sarkodie, actress Lydia Forson and others have bemoaned the act, asking that the man be dealt with.
Sharing her opinion about the issue on X, Lydia Forson wrote: "If I speak on this video now, you will say I hate men. You will ignore that this man openly bragged about sleeping with a 14 year old on air. You will instead focus on my outrage; or make it the 14 year olds fault for allowing this."
Sarkodie, obviously outraged by the video, reposted Lydia's comment with the caption: "I sense no hate here he should not be walking around freely."
Section 101 of the Criminal Code Act 29, 1960 states that, “a person who naturally or unnaturally carnally knows a child under sixteen years of age, whether with or without the consent, commits a criminal offence and is liable on summary conviction to a term of imprisonment of not less than seven years and not more than twenty-five years."
