The police in Ashanti Region are investigating the torching of a 25-year-old man at Apaaso near Bekwai, late Sunday.
Papa Yaw is alleged to have murdered 70-year-old, Ama Ampofowaa, after she accused him of stealing from her farm.
Some angry youth in the community avenged the murder by setting fire to Papa Yaw. They accused him of persistent harassment of townsfolk.
According to an eye witness, Kwabena Gyamfi, the deceased woman often reported theft cases on her farm and suspected Papa Yaw to be behind it.
Mr. Gyamfi, who had often received complaints from the woman, says his instincts prompted him to check on her while she headed to the farm, Sunday morning.
"As I made my way to the farm, I found the young man running out of the farm. I couldn't run after him so I decided to search for the old lady and ask what had happened. I shouted the woman's name three times but there was no response," he said.
Mr. Gyamfi further explains, "I asked someone to call her on the phone. I then heard the phone ring on the farm path, we then suspected something had happened. I called the youth to help me search for her. We later saw the dead body on the farm. The police came later to tell us that the young man had inflicted several machete wounds on the woman".
The youth who were worried about the consistent aggressive behaviour of the suspect laid ambush for him.
They apprehended him and set him ablaze, resulting in his death.
Police are investigating both incidents.
