A US man held up a bank and demanded just one dollar - because he wanted to go to prison to get medical care.
After the robbery, Richard Verone, 59, waited inside the bank for the police to come and arrest him, reports the Chicago Tribune.
He told police that he staged the raid in Gastonia, North Carolina, because it was the only way he could get health treatment.
Jobless Verone said he was suffering from an undiagnosed growth in his chest, two ruptured back discs, and a problem with his foot.
He had presented a cashier at the RBC bank with a note explaining that he didn't want to scare anybody but he was robbing the bank and wanted just $1.
After receiving the dollar, Verone told the teller: "I'll be sitting right over here on the chair waiting for the police."
When they arrived, the police found him sitting on a sofa inside the bank.
"I'm sort of a logical person and that was my logic," Verone said.
"If it is called manipulation, then out of necessity because I need medical care, then I guess I am manipulating the courts to get medical care."
Verone did not use a weapon during his robbery and said he would like a three-year sentence, though he probably will not serve more than 12 months.
