A circuit court at Akyem Swedru on Monday sentenced Kwabena Acheampong, a 25-year-old man to 20 years imprisonment in hard labour for defiling a nine year-old girl at Akyem Takrowase in the Kwaebibirem District.
Police Chief Inspector Ben Osei Kwadwo told the court, presided over by Edward Kwame Bosompem Apenkwah that the complainant is the father of the victim.
Prosecution said on May 22 at about 1800 hours, Acheampong gave the girl 1,000 cedis to buy him roasted corn from the roadside.
Chief Inspector said when the girl returned the money to Acheampong because she did not get roasted corn to buy, the convict locked the door, dragged the girl onto his bed, gagged her and had sex with her.
The screaming of the victim attracted a witness in the case and when he forced the door open and saw the convict having sex with the girl, he (the witness) raised the alarm, rescued the girl and sent her to the parents.
The prosecutor said Acheampong was arrested on May 30 when he resurfaced after fleeing from the town.
