A 36-year-old tailor was on Wednesday remanded in prison custody by a Kumasi circuit court for allegedly defiling a five-year-old kindergarten pupil.
Anthony Opoku pleaded guilty to the charge and sentence was deferred to January 23 following the presiding judge's request for further investigation.
Police Chief Inspector Comfort Baffour-Kyei told the court presided over by Madam Wilhemina Hammond that Opoku was a resident at Atimatim whereas the victim lived with her parents at Anloga, both suburbs of Kumasi.
She said on January 7, the accused paid a visit to his brother who stayed in the same house with the victim and her parents.
Chief Inspector Baffour-Kyei said the victim who was playing with friends at about 1000 hours was lured by Opoku into his brother's room, undressed the girl and forcibly had sex with her.
The girl who could not endure the pain started crying, which alerted a passer-by who identified the voice of the victim and immediately informed the mother.
The prosecution said the mother who was washing in front of the house quickly rushed into the house and saw the door locked and after several knocks failed to yield any response, sympathizers who were attracted to the scene forced the door open only to see the accused struggling to put on his underwear.
Opoku was then arrested and handed over to the police and a medical report indicated that the victim had been defiled.
