Tragedy struck Eshireso, near Wassa Akropong in the Amenfi East District, Western region when 35-year-old Francis Appiah drowned in a pit left by illegal gold diggers.
According to the Western regional Crime Officer, Mr. James Kofi Abraham, the deceased went to swim in the abandoned pit on May 8, drowning in the process.
He expressed worry over constant cases of people drowning in abandoned pits.
He appealed to small scale miners not to leave pits uncovered.
