The Police in Nigeria have arrested a man for attempting to kidnap two children during a church service on Friday.
The 35-year-old Sakiru Famuyiwa was arrested at Ijeja by the Ogun State Police command.
According to a statement by the command Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, the suspect and his partner sneaked into the children’s department of the church while service was ongoing.
The two then kidnapped two children aged 2 and 3 years old. However, in an attempt to run away with the kids, a member of the church spotted them.
He raised an alarm and alongside other congregants pursued the kidnappers and apprehended one of them.
“Upon the distress call, the DPO Ibara division, CSP Nasirudeen Oyedele, quickly mobilised his men and moved to the scene where the suspect was rescued from an angry mob who were about to lynch him,” parts of the statement read.
Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the anti-kidnapping unit of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for investigation.
