A 13-year-old blind girl, whose father subjected her to all forms of maltreatment for three years at Odoyefe, a farming community near Asante-Juaben, is to be enrolled in school.
Ama Ataa has gained admission into the Akropong School for the Blind in the Eastern Region.
Officer in-charge of the Ejisu-Juaben Police Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), Chief Inspector Charlotte Arkoh, disclosed this during a meeting between the Ejisu-Juaben Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Mohammed Boakye Agyeman and the Unit.
The MCE met the DOVVSU after he read GNA’s story on the girl’s plight in the dailies.
In the mean time, DOVVSU, in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare has put the girl under the care of her biological mother, Madam Yaa Ataa at Juaben.
Ama was rescued from the cruelty of her father Kwaku Ayaakwa at Odoyefe upon a tip-off.
Ayaakwah neglected his parental duties to the disabled girl and constantly subjected her to unimaginable shabby treatment.
Apart from physical assault, the father starved and occasionally took her to the farm to work without a guide.
Police Chief Inspector Arkoh said Ayaakwah, who was arrested in the early part of last month would soon be put before court, adding, “The docket on the case is ready”.
