Multinational Telecommunication Network (MTN) will soon unveil a new malaria eradication campaign programme to drastically reduce malaria deaths in Africa.
The campaign, which will be carried out in partnership with technical and advocacy groups will help ensure 100 per cent coverage and usage of anti-malaria mosquito bed nets in affected areas by 2010.
Mr George Andah, Chief Marketing Officer of MTN Ghana, announced this at the launch of the phase two of the 2010 FIFA Global Activity in Kumasi on Saturday.
More than four million lives in Africa are expected to be saved during the implementation of the project.
The Global Activity project, a sponsorship campaign under the theme “We can’t wait, let’s go 2010”, reinforces the commitment of MTN to showcase the beautiful game of football to millions of Africans.
It will also offer MTN subscribers the opportunity to win prizes and other sponsorship packages to watch the FIFA World Cup in South Africa in 2010.
Mr Andah said the implementation of the malaria legacy project, affirmed the commitment of MTN to the development of Africa and is an indication that MTN was a company with social conscience.
He said MTN’s leading position in telecommunications services was built on foresight, boldness and passion for telecommunication services delivery.
Mr Andah said MTN’s involvement in football was more than just sponsorship, adding that it was a statement of pride and expression of its belief in the African continent and what it can achieve.
