Togbe Afede XIV, Agbogbomefia of the Asogli Traditional Council has advised the country’s youth to avoid excessive materialism that resulted in greed and corruption.
He said greed and corruption impeded progress and urged the youth to be selfless, foster unity and direct their potentials towards national development.
Togbe Afede, said this at a thanksgiving service, organized by the Volta Regional Branch of the National Service Scheme (NSS) for service personnel in Ho on the theme "Great things he has done."
He said “You should see yourselves as important in and the national developmental agenda. You should realize that you have a role to play in the fight against poverty, ignorance and diseases."
Togbe Afede said the National Service Scheme was significant to the socio-economic development of the country and appealed to organizations to support it to enable the youth to effectively serve the nation.
He also called on government to provide adequate funds for the Scheme to make it more functional.
Right Reverend Dr. Livingstone Buamah, the Moderator of Evangelical Presbyterian Church, called on Ghanaians to stop lamenting and rather sing songs of upliftment having in mind the great things God was doing for them.
He advised the youth to focus on positive things and be instruments of change wherever they found themselves.
Mr. Ken Gyenfi, Volta Regional Coordinator of the National Service, announced that the Scheme would soon build a regional transit quarters using labour from service personnel from the Ho Polytechnic and other technical schools.
Togbe Afede and Professor Akwasi Agyeman, Chairman of the National Service Board of Governors, were honoured for their meritorious service to the NSS and the nation.
A total of 15 service personnel who also distinguished themselves in their various fields of work were also honoured, and all service personnel were also presented with certificates
