Among the many high-profile personalities who thronged the Garrison Methodist Presbyterian church at Burma camp to pay their last respect to a woman described as a trailblazer in the Ghana armed forces where she rose to become the first female Brigadier General was president Nana Akufo-Addo.
Born some 60-years ago, now Maj. Gen. Constance Ama Edjeani-Afenu was the sixth of ten children.
She enlisted into the Ghana Military Academy on November 19, 1978, to pursue the regular cadet course at the age of 18 years.
In her military career, she held several appointments notable among which were during international assignments with the United Nations.
In 2013, she became the first female to be appointed as the Deputy Military Advisor at the permanent mission of Ghana to the UN in New York till 2016.
During the service to honour this illustrious daughter of the nation, Head Pastor of Perez Chapel International, Bishop Dr. Charles Agyinasare described her as someone who was there for everyone no matter one’s status.
There were also tribute from the family and the Ghana armed forces where she served until her death.
Taking his turn to speak, Vice Admiral Seth Amoama announced that, President Nana Akufo-Addo has promoted the late Constance Ama Edjeani-Afenu to the post of Major-General much to the delight of officers who were present at the funeral.
Major-General Constance Ama Edjeani-Afenu was given a full military burial service per the traditions of the Ghana armed forces.
The remains of the late Major-General Constance Ama Edjeani-Afenu was driven through Burma Camp to the military where the final ceremony took place before she was buried.
