The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Lecturers Caucus at the University of Ghana has lauded the historic victory of President-Elect John Mahama and Vice President-Elect Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang in the 2024 general elections.

In a congratulatory statement, the caucus described the triumph as a “resounding affirmation of Ghana’s democratic maturity and the citizenry’s aspiration for transformative leadership.”

The statement highlights the NDC administration’s commitment to addressing critical challenges within the nation’s educational sector.

The caucus acknowledged the pivotal role of education in national development and expressed confidence in the incoming administration’s ability to deliver reforms.

“Your victory comes at a crucial juncture in our nation’s trajectory,” the statement read.

“The challenges confronting Ghana’s tertiary education sector—such as infrastructure deficits, research funding constraints, and the imperative of curriculum modernisation—require visionary leadership and strategic intervention.”

The group particularly commended the manifesto’s focus on strengthening academia-industry linkages, enhancing research funding and infrastructure, expanding access to quality tertiary education and promoting STEM education and digital literacy.

These priorities, the lecturers argued, align with their own vision of fostering academic excellence and contributing to Ghana’s socio-economic transformation.

The caucus reserved special praise for Vice President-Elect Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, describing her as a bridge between academic excellence and public service.

“Her elevation is not only a testament to her distinguished academic career but also a profound recognition of the invaluable contribution of academia to national development,” the statement said.

The lecturers expressed optimism that her presence in the administration would ensure that educational reform remains at the forefront of governance.

The caucus pledged to partner with the government in advancing the country’s educational agenda, leveraging their expertise for evidence-based policy formulation and implementation.

“We stand ready to contribute our expertise to your administration’s developmental agenda. Through collaborative effort and shared commitment to excellence, we can elevate Ghana’s educational system to compete favourably on the global stage,” they stated.
