The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has reiterated his dedication to working with traditional leaders to promote Ghanaian festivals.
He described this as a vital step towards boosting local economies, fostering cultural tourism, and celebrating Ghana’s rich heritage on a global platform.
During a visit to the Ga Mantse’s palace on Thursday, November 28, Mahama made these remarks as part of his tour of the Greater Accra Region ahead of the December 7 general elections.
The visit included a meeting with King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II and the Ga Traditional Council, where he received a warm reception.
Expressing his gratitude for the vibrant welcome, Mahama commended the role of traditional leaders in preserving Ghana’s culture and heritage.
He acknowledged their influence in shaping societal values and their potential as key partners in driving economic and cultural development.
Mr Mahama noted the importance of festivals, not only as expressions of cultural identity but also as platforms for economic growth.
He highlighted how these celebrations can attract visitors, create jobs, and stimulate business opportunities within local communities.
Taking to his Facebook page, Mahama reflected on the enriching experience of meeting the Ga Mantse and the chiefs, queen mothers, and dignitaries at his palace.
He shared his vision of harnessing festivals as a means of showcasing Ghana's unique traditions while empowering communities economically.
The NDC flagbearer pledged to strengthen collaboration with traditional authorities to elevate the visibility and impact of festivals across the country.
He assured them of his commitment to providing the necessary support to ensure these cultural events contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s national development.
