The Member of Parliament (MP) for Yapei-Kusawgu and former Deputy Energy Minister John Abdulai Jinapor has disclosed that President John Mahama has instructed the Chief of Staff to hold an emergency meeting with power sector players regarding the looming power crisis.
“Today at 10 am, His Excellency the President instructed that the Chief of Staff chairs a meeting with all stakeholders,” he said.
The meeting will involve various power generation companies in the country to find ways to stabilise power supply and prevent 'dumsor'.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Wednesday, January 8, the MP explained that the meeting was necessary due to the immediate past government’s failure to procure sufficient fuel for power generation.
According to him, “GRIDCo, WAPCo, VRA, GNPC, BOST, and all relevant stakeholders are expected to attend the meeting. The essence of the meeting is to find solutions to these challenges that I have enumerated.”
The MP revealed “Last night, we conducted a lot of technical work and have put several options on the table, which will be discussed during the meeting. His Excellency will be briefed, and I’m confident he will provide instructions to the Chief of Staff.”
Regarding liquid fuel stocks, as of Sunday, January 5, he said "AKSA’s current available stock is 225m³ which is expected to last for five hours with AKSA running at 120 megawatts. KTPP has a current stock of 1,275m³, expected to last for one and a half days with one unit running continuously. For Cenpower, the current stock available is 293,000m³, projected to last for 20.9 days with two units running continuously,” he disclosed.
He further disclosed that, while the power producers are facing fuel shortages, the Asogli plant is completely out of fuel.
“Asogli has no fuel; there is no fuel stock at Asogli. The issue is that even if the fuel arrives now, it will still need to be treated,” he explained.
