President John Mahama has congratulated the Black Stars for a “gallant performance” in spite of losing to the Elephants of Ivory Coast at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.
In a consolation message to the Stars shortly after the game, the President wrote on his twitter account: “Kudos #BlackStars. Gallant performance despite our loss. You exceeded our expectations, going from zero to heroes. I am proud of you”.
The Black Stars of Ghana last night swept all the individual awards at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, including the tournament’s best player award.
Black Star’s coach, Avram Grant was adjudged the best manager. Deputy skipper of the team Andre Ayew emerged the top scorer of the tournament; Akwasi Appiah took home the fair play award with Christian Atsu snatching the best goal of the tournament and best player award.
Ghana was not one of the tournament’s favourites after a battered image at the World Cup in Brazil last year and the struggle to qualify for this tournament.
Despite losing the most coveted award, the Black Stars won all the individual awards,
