The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential Candidate, John Mahama, has announced plans to construct a second national theatre in the Ashanti Region.
This he explained is part of a broader vision to revitalise Ghana’s Creative Arts sector.
Speaking to creative arts industry members at the Great Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology on Tuesday, November 12, Mr Mahama shared that the project would be prioritised if his party is elected in the December 7 election.
Mr Mahama emphasised the significance of Kumasi as a cultural hub and explained that the existing theatre in the city is in poor condition, reinforcing the need for a new facility.
“Kumasi is the center of arts and culture in Ghana. When we return to power, we will fulfill our promise to build the second National Theatre here, recognizing its importance to the creative arts community and Ghana’s cultural heritage.”
The proposal is part of Mahama’s broader agenda to expand infrastructure for Ghana’s creative arts, supporting local artists and promoting cultural expression across the country.
