Mahama : NDC would re-introduce MRE

Mr. John Mahama, the running mate to Prof John Atta Mills of the National Democratic Party (NDC), has said the party would partner religious bodies to re-introduce Moral and Religious Education into the education system when it wins power. He said the re-introduction of Moral and Religious Education would help instil good morals and discipline in the youth. Mr Mahama, who was in Bolgatanga as part of a tour of northern Ghana, visited the Catholic Bishop’s Secretariat and the Central Mosque. He said the state alone could not achieve any meaningful development without the involvement of religious bodies and commended the Catholic Church for contributing to national development. Mr. Mahama appealed to religious bodies not to only focus on the spiritual needs of people but to also preach against social injustices. He said the Catholic Church used to come out with pastoral letters and spoke out against injustices but this has ceased and appealed to the church to revisit the practise. Mr. Mahama also visited the Paramount Chief of Bolgatanga Traditional Area, Naba Martin Abilba III, the Paramount Chief of Bongo, Naba Baba Salifu Alameyarom, the Paramount Chief of Tongo Traditional Area, Tongo-Rana, Sabaalug-Namalteng. He said an NDC government would revamp the Farmers Services Company (FASCOM) to assist the youth to go into farming. It will also resuscitate the Tono and Vea Irrigation dams. Mr Mahama said special attention would also be given to the sheanut sector and a new Regional Hospital would be built. Source: GNA
