The Chairman of Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL), has revealed that President John Mahama is deeply enthusiastic about the initiative and has been a staunch supporter of its mission to recover Ghana’s looted resources.
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa speaking on PM Express on Monday, January 13, expressed his gratitude for the President’s unwavering encouragement, which he said has been pivotal to the team’s momentum and public reception.
“Absolutely, President Mahama is very, very excited,” the North Tongu MP stated.
“He’s been really pleased with the public response, how the Ghanaian people have embraced ORAL. He’s encouraged us to go all out and not to be bothered about the few dissenting voices raising all kinds of red herrings.”
ORAL, launched by the new NDC administration, is tasked with investigating and recovering assets unlawfully taken from the state.
The initiative has garnered significant public attention, with many Ghanaians submitting petitions and reports to aid the team’s efforts.
Mr Ablakwa attributed much of this success to Mahama’s vocal support.
“The President has been our greatest cheerleader, really supporting our cause,” he said.
“That is why you see all of us in the field, committed to validating all the claims coming in. We don’t want to be an armchair committee. We want to make sure that every single petition, every single piece of information, is verified.”
Mr Ablakwa highlighted the importance of ORAL’s work in restoring public trust and protecting the integrity of public office.
“It’s an honour to be of service to our country and to make sure we fix what has become a crisis for our collective good,” he said.
“If not, very soon, public office will become so risky that our lives will even be at stake, just because we did not put in place systems to deal with these excesses by a few unscrupulous individuals.”
The Chairman noted that Mahama’s involvement has energised the ORAL team and inspired confidence in their mission.
“The President’s leadership and commitment to accountability remind us of why we do what we do. His support is a clarion call for us to deliver results,” Mr Ablakwa said.
