The Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) says former President, John Mahama has no solutions to the economic challenges facing the country.
Mr. Richard Ahiagbah explained that his assertion is because, during Mr Mahama's tenure of office, he couldn’t manage the economy.
“What we are interested in is whether or not he has a solution, because we saw him [Mahama] vanquished gains that he got, collapsed the economy, banking sector, cause Ghanaians to live in absolute difficulty in this country without electricity,” he said while addressing the press on Wednesday at the NPP headquarters.
Mr Ahiagbah’s comments come after Mr Mahama declared his intention to contest in the NDC flagbearership race on Tuesday.
According to the NPP Communications Director, if Mr Mahama has expressed interest in contesting in the NDC flagbearership race, he should highlight his proposition.
“If he is coming, we want him interrogated. That is why we are emphasising for you to hold everybody to the fact. What is his proposition? What is he bringing?
“We have to know. We are allowing the NDC to just hide behind the difficulty which we have explained to you came about due to Covid-19 and the Russian-Ukraine war. They are denying that … we want you to hold them accountable…so if they want power they must show us why they want power,” he told the press.
He questioned the ideas former president has to want power in the next presidential election.
“Remember the last time he tried, he said one of his ideas is to legalise okada and between you and I, if that is the option he has, we want to see what he is bringing. Those ideas, and visions that he has that vanquished this economy, we want him to come and repeat it. He has nothing new,” he said.
He, however, stated that the NPP at this point is interested in how to build the economy, adding that they are ready to face John Mahama.
This, he noted is because the NPP has defeated the NDC twice.
Meanwhile, former President, John Mahama has picked nomination forms for the upcoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearership race.
He has the full backing of all Regional Chairmen of the NDC and his former contender, Joshua Alabi who believe he stands tall among all the candidates and must be given the nod to lead the party into the 2024 general elections.
Prof Alabi, leading a delegation to pick the nomination forms on behalf of Mr Mahama, said the time is now for a messiah to take the country out of the woods.
