Former President John Dramani Mahama has called for more support for the poor people in areas under lockdown.
According to the National Democratic Congress flagbearer, the poor people are going through excruciating moments due to the lockdown.
He noted that because they could not go out to work for their daily income, they have limited resources to fend for themselves and their family.
“We need to do more as a people to alleviate the suffering of this disadvantaged and vulnerable group,” he wrote on his Facebook page.
He, however, acknowledged the efforts of some philanthropists who have gone out to support and provide some essential items to the less privileged.
“I wish to commend especially the NDC members of Parliament, our Parliamentary candidates, and executive members for responding positively to my call to step out and show compassion and charity to their constituents during this bleak period in our history.”
Mr Mahama then advised citizens to adhere to the precautionary measures meted out by the Ghana Health Service and World Health Organisation (WHO) to prevent getting infected.
He also called on the law enforcers deployed to desist from brutalising civilians as they enforce the President’s directive.
President Nana Akufo-Addo in a televised address on Friday, March 27, imposed restriction of movement in some parts of the country for two weeks.
