President-elect John Mahama has stressed the significance of a smooth and transparent transition process, urging the newly inaugurated Joint Transitional Team to uphold the principles of the Presidential Transition Act.
Speaking at the joint transitional meeting held at the Accra International Conference Centre, President-elect Mahama highlighted the importance of cooperation, mutual respect, and openness during the transfer of power.
“Today, we are here to inaugurate the joint transitional team, as required by law, and I wish to congratulate the members who have been selected or nominated to serve on this joint transitional team,” he stated.
President-elect Mahama noted that the transition is a critical step in ensuring a peaceful and democratic handover from one democratically elected government to another.
“This is in fulfillment of the Presidential Transition Act, which was signed into law in 2012 by our late president of blessed memory, Prof John Evans Atta Mills. The law requests that we set up a joint transitional team in a cooperative spirit with mutual respect and openness to the approach of matters during the transition period,” he added.
The President-elect emphasized the team’s role in achieving a seamless transfer of administration, stating, “The purpose is to achieve a smooth and peaceful transfer of government administration, as I said, from one government to another.”
He expressed hope that the Joint Transitional Team will operate within the confines of the law to fulfill the wishes of the Ghanaian people, as expressed in the recent elections.
