Mr Peter Mac Manu, National Chairman of New Patriotic Party (NPP) has advised party activists to work harder to ensure the party succeeded in its socio-economic and political policies and programmes.
He asked them to uphold the NPP as the party of the moment and the future and build upon the democratic principles and achievements so far achieved during its seven-year rule.
Mr Mac Manu gave the advice when addressing the Second National Women and Youth Conference of the party in Kumasi on Saturday.
The conference under the theme "Our Root, Our Strength Our Future" was to evaluate performance of the women and youth groups in the party and adopt strategic measures to facilitate growth and development of the party.
He said the NPP had within the past seven years, provided the kind of exemplary leadership that had made remarkable improvement in all sectors of the economy.
Mr Mac Manu said youth empowerment policies such as the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP), National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Educational Reform Programmes, Mass Cocoa Spraying Exercise and the Women Development Fund, had contributed to improve the living standards of the citizenry.
He pointed out that NPP was committed to the tenets of liberal democracy and the rule of law, basis of the party's foundation and strength.
Mr Mac Manu said women and the youth had a crucial role to play in activities of the party and advised them to avoid vandalism, violence, arrogance and disrespect for leaders of the party.
"It is time all of us to abide by the rules and regulations of the party to boost our bid to win the 2008 elections," he added.
Nana Ohene Ntow, General Secretary of NPP, thanked God for saving President John Agyekum Kufuor's life after an accident in Accra last week.
He announced that the National Executive Committee of the party would organise a special thanksgiving service for him.
Madam Rita Asorbayire, NPP National Women's Organiser, appealed to the National Executive Committee to create an enabling environment for the youth to develop their talents, skills and knowledge to enable them contribute effectively to the party's progress.
Mr Emmanuel Asamoah Owusu-Ansah, Ashanti Regional Minister in an address read on his behalf said the party had consolidated democracy in Ghana therefore, efforts should be made to sustain the gains so far achieved.
Madam Cecilia Obeng Dapaah, Minister of State at the Ministry of Water Resources, Works and Housing was optimistic the conference would assist the delegates to chart a new course towards the party's success in future.
