Police Operations Chief ACP Kofi Boakye will next Tuesday, January 16 make his first appearance in court as a prosecution witness in the MV Benjamin cocaine trial.
Although the Justice Georgina Wood Committee which investigated the scandal recommended the prosecution of ACP Boakye alongside Kwabena Amaning, also known as Tagor and Alhaji Issa Abass, it is unlikely that he might be prosecuted.
Tagor and Alhaji Abass spent the Christmas and New Year holidays behind bars while Kofi Boakye had been on a forced leave.
Kofi Boakye once hosted the two accused men and three others at his residence in what he explained as his attempt to establish the source of rumors that linked him to the 76 missing parcels of cocaine aboard the vessel.
That meeting was secretly recorded, and the Justice Wood Committee which later investigated the circumstances leading to the missing cocaine implicated Kofi Boakye, defining his role in the matter as one from which he desired personal financial rewards.
He was subsequently asked to proceed on leave by the Police Service and has since not been recalled.
ACP Kofi Boakye has however been reporting regularly to the police as a condition demanded by the police investigating his case.
He joins another person initially implicated in the matter, Kwabena Acheampong who has also become a prosecution witness to testify against Tagor and Alhaji Issah Abass.
