Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, James Agalga says Ghana Armed Forces' (GAF) decision to reappoint Lt. Col. Frank Agyeman as the Commanding Officer of the 64 Infantry Regiment is an insult to the outfit of National Security Ministry.
According to the Builsa North MP, the National Security Council trusted the mother agency to chastise the misconduct of the former Director of Operations.
But in his view, GAF rather rewarded his actions.
"Lt. Col. Frank Agyeman at the time of his secondment to the ministry of national security, he was and still remain a serving military officer and so he is subjected to the discipline to the ministry specifically the Armed forces regulation. That explains why the ministry for National Security couldn’t have dealt with him by way of imposing sanctions. The appropriate institution in this instance is the military.
"A day after the secondment of Lt. Col. Frank Agyeman happened, he was appointed as commanding officer of the 64 Infantry Regiment, that for me is a slap in the face of all that happened at the level of the national security," he told Evans Mensah on Top Story.
Mr Agalga's comment comes on the heels of a report revealing that few hours after Lt. Col. Agyeman was relieved of his position as National Security Director of Operations on May 20, due to his alleged role in the assault against Citi FM journalist Caleb Kudah, he received the top military appointment.
Meanwhile, the former Minister for Interior has stated emphatically that the action taken by the Ghana Armed Forces is a complete anomaly that needs to be addressed immediately.
Mr Agalga further quizzed whether Lt. Col. Frank Agyeman has been subjected to investigation by GAF or "is it the case that the misconduct for which the National Security clearly established when the investigation occurred is something the military does not want to take seriously?"
