The National Chief Imam has urged all Muslims to look out for the first appearance of the new moon of Ramadan on Wednesday, September 12, between 5.30 and 6.00 pm (1730 and 1800).
A statement issued by Alhaji Adam Musah, Administrative Manager at the Office of the National Chief Imam said that if the new moon was sighted anywhere in the country fasting would begin on Thursday, September 13.
The statement said “if the new moon is not sighted, then Thursday, 13 of September will be regarded as Shaban and thus the Friday 14th September 2007 automatically becomes the first day of Ramadan.”
The statement said that Fasting is forbidden on a day of doubt.
