The Multimedia Group's Joy Brands' held a national dialogue on defending media freedom at the GNAT Hall in Accra.
The dialogue, themed "Defending Media Freedom," brought together key stakeholders, including government officials, journalists, and regulators, to discuss strategies that will ensure the press in Ghana is genuinely free to carry out its mandate.
The event addressed challenges such as political attacks on press freedom, threats against journalists, arrests, detentions, and even torture by state agencies, including the police, military, and political operatives, as the nation approaches the December 7 general elections.
A total of 21 panelists spoke at the event, including investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni, JoyNews’ Samson Lardy Anyenini, Inspector General of Police Dr George Dampare, and MFWA’s Sulemana Braimah.
Other speakers included Dr Serebour Quaicoe of the Electoral Commission, Information Minister Fatimatu Abubakar, Dr Kenneth Ashigbey, and several others.
The dialogue was broadcast live on JoyNews TV and streamed on its social media platforms.
