Kpando Hearts of Lions continued their home winning streak with a 2-1 victory over visiting Wa All Stars as the 2009/2010 Glo Premier League season gradually draws to a close.
Striker Kofi Nti-Boakye’s close range opener on the 51st minute mark gave the homesters the urge to bite more.
And it was no surprise when substitute Godfred Asante doubled the lead with a flick in the six-yard box eight minutes later.
The hard work of the visitor’s paid some dividends after they had a consolation at the stroke of full time from the spot.
Stephen Ahorlu could do little to save an expertly converted kick by defender Logoh Livingstone after substitute Daniel Bomfah was brought down in the penalty area by John Kuffour.
With five matches more to end the season, Lions knew that a win could not be compromised.
Taking cue from their impressive home record this season, Lions were brimming with confidence bearing in mind the threat their opponents can pose.
Right from the blast of referee G.K Manu’s whistle, All stars made their intensions clear winning all fifty-fifty balls, and looking more purposeful.
The whole Kpando park almost went dead after striker Emmanuel Osei’s diving header, eight minutes into the game, zoomed into the right bottom corner of Lion’s post, but the home fans heaved a big sigh of relief when that goal was ruled off-side.
After this stage, the confidence level of All Stars kept growing with midfielders; Bright Addae, Kwame Nsor, Ismail Amin and forward Emmanuel Osei dictating the pace of the game to end the first 45 minutes.
Back from recess, Lions ‘roared’, and Boakye broke the deadlock in what could have been his third after a header in the first half hit the cross bar and an intelligent volley of his missed the post by inches.
The second goal by Asante vindicated Coach Olando’s tactical dispensation, when he pulled out Sena Kofi Fiaboe, who was wasteful on the day.
The introduction of James Tagoe and Gilbert Fiamenyo for Sheriff Danladi and Ofosu Amoah respectively, stabilized the home side as they looked dangerous up front, but could not utilize a few of the goal-scoring chances that came their way.
Coach Nuru Ahmed on the other hand for All Stars did not rest on his oars as he urged his boys to push forward by introducing Godfred Awotwe, Aminu Fuseini and Daniel Bomfah, but the central defensive pair of John Kuffour and Godfred Rockson made it difficult to score.
But their perseverance paid off when Kuffour fouled Bomfah in vital area resulting in the penalty.
